- Third and fourth grade violinists, violists and cellists with at least six months of private lesson experience are eligible to audition for the Abbot, Crisafulli and Day School Orchestras.
- Third and fourth grade bass players currently enrolled in private lessons will be able to audition for the Abbot, Crisafulli and Day School Orchestras.
- Students will provide the name and contact information of their current private teacher to the Strings faculty.
- A placement performance date will be set for each school in September. Todd Hamelin and Jessica Corwin will be present as co-decision makers.
- Students will play a musical selection of their choice from their recent private lessons and selected scales (see below) as a demonstration of their technical and musical standing.
- Students will sightread a common musical excerpt as a demonstration of their music reading skills.
- Parents may choose to be present at the placement performance.
- Students who demonstrate adequate musical knowledge will have the option to participate in the orchestra at their school.
- Participating students must participate in Strings class and show adequate progress on orchestra music through performance and practice charts signed by parents.
- Participating students must pay the Instrumental Program fee.
- Participating students must continue weekly private lessons outside of school.
- Orchestra membership and concert participation will be contingent on regular rehearsal attendance and good standing in the Strings program as determined by the Strings faculty.
- When appropriate, additional placement performance opportunities may be scheduled in January and March for the purpose of reassessment based on the results of the September audition.
