Robinson Project

The Westford Robinson Project is a collaborative effort between the town and the MSBA to modernize, rebuild or replace the Colonel John Robinson Elementary School, ensuring it meets 21st-century educational standards. This project focuses on creating a safe, sustainable, and inclusive learning environment that will serve Westford’s youngest students and the broader community for generations to come.

How should Westford address Robinson’s facility needs while planning the best elementary configuration for the next 50 years?

 

All Westford residents invited to our first COMMUNITY FORUM for the Project Kick-off and Goals Interactive Workshop on Thursday April 9, 2026 from 7:00-8:30PM at the Robinson School, 60 Concord Rd.

The MA School Building Authority (MSBA) has agreed that the Robinson School has significant facility and educational challenges with its open-suite floor plan and aging building systems. Westford has begun a “Feasibility Study” that allows us to examine district-wide elementary enrollment, a possible change in grade configuration, and how different options could affect the district’s other aging elementary facilities, including Abbot and Day.

Currently in Feasibility Study Phase

During this phase, a designer (architect/engineering firm) is hired for their technical expertise in evaluating building systems (structural, HVAC, electrical, code compliance), analyzing renovation/addition possibilities, modelling multiple grade configuration options, developing cost estimates for each scenario and presenting the comparisons. This phase is about studying options, not designing a final building.
