A welcoming update...8/17-18-19

Ok, 17, let’s welcome 18-19!

So, maybe you have missed this weekly missive throughout the summer...maybe you have not.  At any rate, we are almost at that time of year again when we are less irritated by the Back to School shopping advertisements than we were when they started back in July.  We are two weekends away from opening the doors to the 2018-2019 school year and we could not be more appreciative of all the work that Mr. Harbaum and our entire custodial staff have done throughout the summer.  As always, they have taken great care in preparing all of our rooms and hallways in anticipation of the workout they will get once they are filled with the over 700 curious, energetic, inspiring, passionate and enthusiastic members of our entire Stony Brook community.

While I know that all of our students are eager and excited to be here...whether they admit it or not...remember that the first day back (Tuesday, August 28 ) is reserved for the 6th graders only.  They get the building to themselves on that first day along with the adults’ undivided attention. The 7th and 8th graders have to wait until Wednesday, August 29 to join us. I know it will be difficult for them to wait another day, but as we continue to help them grow as independent learners this extra day allows them another opportunity to exhibit the foundational skills of grit and perseverance that we have come to expect from them...or that we will continue to help them develop!

If Stony Brook is now only a memory for your kids and they have moved on to another educational adventure, we certainly understand if you choose to remove yourself from this weekly distribution.  We will miss you indeed and I hope you remember us fondly.

For those of you continuing with us on this journey called middle school, do your best to relax and enjoy the ride!

See you all soon,

Chris
