School Council Minutes

Present: James Antonelli, Karen Benway, Robert Ware, Clare O’Brien, Aaditi Padhi, Colin Hoar, Silas Mark, Lauren Clark

Clare O’Brien -
Mid year - math (not a clear shift-mid-term)
Mid year - exams canceled- Clare thought it was a good decision.
No work over the break - good job
Google placement of assignments- can teachers place in one location? Seems to be some confusion.
Math - challenges - no opportunity for extra credit, whereas in other subjects, there is an opportunity for some extra credit.
Clare indicated that there are not as many tests in math as other courses.
Bob Ware -
Teachers need to reprocess mid-year exams for this year.
Change in leadership - Krissy McHugh- Math Curriculum Coordinator
to Erin Bengiovanni STEM Coordinator.
March 2020 - Algebra II - remote to Geometry 2021 to Algebra II 2022 tough transition for students. They will catch up as the year progresses.
Silas Mark -
Mental health - student perspective is big plus
Students being welcome at school is a positive outcome
Socialization is so much better

Biology/chemistry - some students are struggling
Parents were seeing a gap in learning.
Mr. Antonelli reminded the School Council members that NHS Tutors are available and other Grant Tutors are available to assist students after school

Student drop in is coming up
20 students using NHS help right now
Primarily soph/freshman
Midterms - some cumulative exams, but trimmed in length.

Budget Update - 4.0 FTE cut (1,.0 Art - Resignation, 1.0 Math-Resignation, 1.0 Social Studies /English Retirement Breakdown to follow, 1.0 English)
Silas Mark - concerned about STEM
Comprehension is very tough because of the pandemic.
Additional SEL - support - no additions at this time
Lauren Clark - Outside counselor support has been hired - PBH - organization
Karen Benway - jubilation - no exams
Then the “no school call” snow day
