School Council Minutes

April 25, 2019

In Attendance:  Karen Benway, Wendy Pechacek, Bob Ware, Marcos Acosta, Stephanie Devlin, James Antonelli, Silas Mark, Sophie Jiang, Raghav Kare.

1.         First order of business was to review and approve the March 21, 2019      Minutes.

            Motion to accept – B. Ware

            2nd – W. Pechacek

Approved-Unanimously

2.         Second order of business – Handbook updates

            a.         Homework Policy – daily assignments should be posted by 2:00                           PM each day.

            b.         Tobacco Use/Possession Policy

                        First violation = successful completion of a tobacco/electronics                              cigarette use prevention program. Program must be completed                                     within 30 days of violation.  Program must be approved by the                                 administration.

            c.         Dress code – a long discussion took place.  Some concerns                                              continue about “who” decides, what can wear” to school.

                        Silas Mark may contact the School Committee – sub-committee to                                    ask for a chance in language.  This sentence seems to be open-                               ended “conversations…. Satisfactory solution.”

                        May 20th – is the presentation to the School Committee.

            d.         Responsible use of technology at W.A.

                        - wearable technology

                        - video games

                        - social media

                        Raghav Kare – access to work after hours – Mike Wells

Raghav and Mr. Antonelli will meet with Mike Wells to discuss access for students.

                        Silas Mark: visit to Acton High School

                        - Job fair

                        - Some kind of job fair high school students

                        - Need a contact person at W.A.

                        - During lunch break – 10:30-2:00 PM

                        Athletics: vacations and JV/Freshmen practices:

                        - See Jeff Bunyon- Director of Athletics

                        - Could there be some flexibility with sub-varsity programs?

                        - Create a survey for coaches
