Trustee Awards

Abbot Award

This scholarship is given in memory of John Abbot, one of the original trustees of Westford Academy. Mr. Abbot was a Second Lieutenant in the Revolutionary War. He served as Town Clerk and Treasurer between the years of 1792 and 1794. This scholarship is awarded to a senior entering a four-year college.

Alexander D. Vasilevsky Science and Technology Memorial Award

Scholarship will be awarded to a Westford Academy graduating senior with financial need who is pursuing a Science/Engineering degree at any college.

Anastas Velantzas President's Award

Scholarship will be given to the President of the Senior Class - unless receiving another award. Student must be going on to a 4 year college and/or be a 3 sport athlete for all four years and not receiving another award. School Selection Committee recommends to the Trustees.

Andy Daniels Memorial Award

Westford Academy graduate going on to attend a trade school or community college. This student should be engaged with the student body and a good friend to everyone. Selected by the Family.

Angelo A. Giacobbe Memorial Award

Senior attending a four-year college. Student with community service involvement and financial need. Family committee selects.

Arthur & Catherine Karpinsky Family Award

WA graduating senior who demonstrates leadership, is an effective team player, a good role model, expresses empathy and kindness toward others, and works to improve life within the community. Student demonstrates the highest levels of integrity, honesty, and conscientiousness.

Arthur Griffin Hildreth Award

WA graduating senior who is planning to pursue a math or computer science major in a four-year college. Scholastic achievement and/or financial need.

Barbara Hildreth Parkhurst Award

Given to a student continuing their education in the field of medical or biological science. Demonstrated scholastic ability. Selected by the Trustee Committee.

Barbara Wyman Shea Memorial Award

Student demonstrating good academic and athletic ability.

Bertha Norris Hildreth Award

WA graduating senior who is planning to pursue a math or computer science major in a four-year college. Scholastic achievement and/or financial need.

Bette Ross Hook Award

A Westford Academy Graduate who is majoring or intends to major in History or Education. Preference given to a student who has been active in community service.

Blanchard-Stony Brook Productions Theatre Arts Award

Senior who has participated as a cast or crew member in a middle school production or a senior who has worked as a high school assistant to one of the professional staff and plans on attending a 2 or 4 year college.

Bryan H. Porter Track & Field Memorial Award

The award will be open to a member of the boys and girls track program.

Selected by Family and Track coaches.

Caroline A. Peloquin Memorial Award (T)

A graduating senior who plans to attend a two or four year college and has demonstrated leadership in Girl Scouting, outstanding community service and academic achievement. Family Committee recommends to the Trustees.

Charles Hildreth Colburn Award

A graduating senior who is entering a four-year college. Preference given to students who are interested in agriculture or music.

Christopher & Mary Hook Memorial Award

Given to a student who has achieved despite extreme difficulties.

Class of 1995 Award

To a graduating senior planning to attend college who has demonstrated commitment to improving school or community. Preference given to a student not receiving other scholarships.

Dan & Margaret Towers Award

To a Westford Academy student who has demonstrated a strong commitment to the Town of Westford or their Church through Community Service, Volunteerism or Mission work. Additional consideration will be given to students who plan to pursue a career in Engineering, Education or Military Service (though not required).

Daniel F. Provost Memorial Award

Senior who demonstrated dedication and talent for the field of Commercial Art. Moderate family income considered. Applications reviewed by family members and recommended to Trustees.

David Grand Memorial Wrestling Award

Dedication - Westford Academy senior who is dedicated to the sport of wrestling; Perseverance - Someone who doesn't give up when faced with tough times on and off the mat; Passion - someone who has a love of wrestling and embodies all the qualities of a good wrestler.

Derek Lyman Award

This scholarship will be awarded to a Westford Academy Senior who has passion for theater as an actor, singer and team builder; who has demonstrated leadership and mentoring of others; and who has shown a strong commitment to community service. This is a merit-based scholarship. All students are encouraged to apply regardless of financial need.

Dr. Clarence D. Wright Science Award

Student who intends to pursue further education in sciences. Selected by the Trustees and School Selection Committee.

Dr. Michael J. Buonsanto Memorial Award

To a senior pursuing an education in the field of science, preferably in atmospheric sciences. Selected by the Trustees and School Selection Committee.

Eleanor Colburn Fletcher Award

Graduating senior enrolled in a four-year college. Academic achievement, involvement in school, and financial need all considered. Selected by the Trustees and School Selection Committee.

Erin Elizabeth Goddard Memorial Award

Student who has overcome obstacles in his/her life, provided support to other students; continuing his/her education. Family will review applications and make recommendations to the Trustees.

Eva Nesmith Brown English Award

Given to a graduating senior pursuing further study in English. Selected by the Westford Academy English Department.

First Lt. Jeffrey H. Peterson Memorial Award

Given to a student going on to further education. Contribution weighed more than academic achievement.

Fisher Family Memorial Award

Given to graduating senior who is first in achievement in English.

Forty Memorial Award

A senior entering a 4 years college in a Health related field. Preference to students who have been active in community service, and not receiving any other support and/or demonstrating financial need.

Gary Franceschi Memorial Award

Given to a senior who is an all round team player and who has been a contributor to his school and community. One male and one female will be elected by the Trustee and School Selection Committee.

Gertrude Houghton Memorial Award

Given to a student going on to a 4 year college to major in foreign language education or foreign languages.

Gordon B. Seavey Communication Award

Graduate who plans to attend an accredited college for the purpose of majoring in the communications field; i.e., Journalism, TV, Radio, Magazine, Newspaper, Media, or related fields.

Gordon B. Seavey Memorial Award

Senior who plans to attend a four-year college. Good school citizen. Involvement in community service and extracurricular activities at school.

Hanly Family Scholarship

An individual who is planning on pursuing a career in the mental health field, social work, or psychology.

Harry & Mary Smith - Westford Town Democrat Party Scholarship

Graduating senior, who has shown leadership skills and community service activity and is planning for a career in government or public service. Selected by Organization Committee.

Helena "Mickey" Crocker Award

Westford Academy student going on to study Special Education, Geriatrics or Social Work. 3.0 ("B" average) recommended.

Hoebeke-Blanco Memorial Award

Graduating senior enrolled in a school of higher education. Actively involved in sports, demonstrating good sportsmanship who has achieved academically. Family hardship and financial need considered. Family Committee recommends to Trustees.

Innovative Artist Award

Established to help further the education of a motivated and creative visual art student. It is given to the recipient with best wishes for an exciting and meaningful future.

Jean Bell Memorial Award

Senior going into the field of elementary education. Selected by School Selection Committee and the Trustees.

Julian Award

Mr. Julian Abbot Sr. established this scholarship in memory of his son Julian who was killed in a railroad accident at the age of fifteen. This scholarship is awarded to a senior pursuing a career in education.

Karen MacWilliams Memorial Award

A graduating senior who is going on to further education; who has demonstrated the courage to face adversity and persevere. Application reviewed by family members, and recommends to Trustees.

Kathy Mayer Memorial Award

Graduating senior must demonstrate outstanding citizenship, average achievement and also helpfulness to others. Student must be attending a 2 or 4-year college. Selected by Family Committee.

Katie Enos Memorial Award

This scholarship is given in memory of Katherine Delia Enos. Katie, a member of the class of 2014, was an accomplished athlete, musician and writer, who left this earth just before her freshman year at Westford Academy. This scholarship is awarded to a Westford Academy senior who has been accepted to a four year college, who has played a varsity sport in high school and who has been involved in the arts. Preference is given to a student who has demonstrated a passion for athletics, the arts, or writing, and will be pursuing a degree in English or a related major.

Marcus Tullius Cicero Mock Trial Award

Student selected should be a four-year veteran of Mock Trial, who has demonstrated leadership, high moral standards, and legal ability, in the spirit of the greatest of all lawyers. Selected by Organization Committee.

Mary L. Westcott Achievement Award

Given to a student who has achieved despite extreme difficulties. Selected by the Trustees and School Selection Committee.

Michael J. Lorden II Memorial Award

Graduating senior planning to attend a 4-year college who has been an active team member on the WA football team. Demonstrated financial need may be considered. Two recipients will be selected by the family and recommended to the Trustees. The family may contribute additional funds to the recipients.

Michael Towers Theater Arts Award

Given to a senior who is an active participant in the Westford Academy Theater Department and embraces a role as an artistic and interpersonal leader. Recognized for service to the community.

Nabnasset Booster Club Award

Given to a senior pursuing higher education. Preference given to Nabnasset residents.

Olivia Marchand Memorial Award

"Don't worry, Be Happy" reflects Olivia's positive spirit. Applications will be considered from students who deal well with challenges, are optimistic, upbeat and have a deep appreciation of friendships and the natural world surrounding them.

Pat Bradley Woman Athlete Award

Paul Poisson Cross Country Award

Westford Academy senior going on to further their education. Recipient does not need to be high academic achiever.

Peter Dennechuk College Award

Given to a Westford Academy graduate who has been a member of the Indoor and Outdoor Track teams.

Representative Geoff Hall Award

Westford Academy graduate who is pursuing further education. Class rank is not a criteria. Community Service involvement is a top priority.

Richard Hall Memorial Award

To a student who is pursuing higher education in the field of engineering. Selected by Trustee and School Selection Committee.

Rita Miller Memorial Award

Awarded to a student pursuing a career in education with preference being given to a career in elementary education. Consideration given to participation in athletics and to having attended Westford Public Schools for the majority of both primary and secondary education. Selected by Trustee and School Selection Committee.

Robert Shepherd Memorial Award

Student planning to continue education in a two or four year college whose co-curricular activities give evidence of concern for others and who demonstrates good academic achievement. Selected by Trustee and School Selection Committee.

Robinson / Day Schools Award (T)

In Memory of Mary Ellen Bissonette, Nicholas P. Colgan, David M. Lemire, and Derek R. Wisnowski. This scholarship is to be given to a graduating senior who attended Robinson or Norman E. Day Schools and has demonstrated excellence in music, creative writing, physical education, or citizenship. Student must be attending a four-year college or university. The award is to be given upon successful completion of first semester. Selected by the Trustees and School Scholarship Committee.

Russ Carlson Pop Warner Football Award

Senior must have participated in the Westford Pop Warner Football  & Cheerleading Program. Student must have achieved honor roll status during senior year. Recommendations made by WA Football & Cheerleading Coach for "best attitude".

S.T.A.G.E. Crew Award

To be awarded to a graduating senior that has participated in any theatre production at WA as a performer or in a technical support role. Scholarship award not based on financial need. Selected by Organization Committee.

Sam Grad Memorial Track Award

To be awarded to a Westford Academy Track Athlete who demonstrates leadership, compassion and love of competition.

Scott Fabrizio Memorial Award

Graduating senior going on to a 2 or 4-year college. Preference given to student with financial need and with interest in writing, music, drama or multi-media. Character, maturity, integrity and self-motivation important.

Shields Memorial Award

A deserving senior who plans to enter an institution of higher learning. Applications reviewed by Mr. Kulikowski and recommended to the Trustees.

Steven Brian Wright Memorial Award

Senior male and female hockey player going on to higher education. Enthusiasm for sport of Ice Hockey, need, and average scholar. Selected by Organization Committee.

Stone Award

This award was established in memory of two members of the Stone family. Timothy was one of the original students enrolled at Westford Academy. James M. served as Speaker of the House in Massachusetts from 1866 to 1867. This scholarship is awarded to a senior entering a four-year college.

Susan MacKay Memorial Award

This award commemorates 9/11. Westford Academy graduate going on to a 2 or 4 year college. Someone interested in going into the field of fashion design, retail merchandising and marketing, fire science, law enforcement, or EMT. Selected by Trustee and School Selection Committee.

Technology Arts - Arthur Bailey Merit Award

Given to student who has excelled in the area of technology education. Award recipient is recommended by Technology Education Department to the Board of Trustees.

The Trustees of Westford Academy Award

Scholarship given to a graduating senior based on financial need and service to school and community.

Thomas C. Pehrson Memorial Award

A senior applying to a two-year college. Family committee recommends to the Trustees.

Thomas Cobb Memorial Award

Westford Academy student must have participated in WYBSL and played baseball/softball for Westford Academy all 4 years. College acceptance required.

Timothy Heald Memorial Award

Given to a graduating senior accepted at a school of higher learning to obtain a degree that shows concern for others. Average scholar, enthusiasm for sports, especially hockey. Special consideration given to a student with any knowledge of Tim. Family reviews applications and recommends to Trustees.

Todd Eager Memorial Award

Given to a graduating Senior planning to attend a 4-year college. The student should have a great enthusiasm for computers, demonstrated a good academic record and shown concern for others. Senior going into the field of elementary education. Selected by School Selection Committee and the Trustees.

Victor "Cheerio" Neal Award

For nearly 20 years of his 50 year residency in Westford, Victor "Cheerio" Neal Sr. was a huge fan of WA. Cheerio was a well known bus driver for and a regular attendee of many sports and extra curricular activities throughout the year. Cheerio took pride in photographing all the events he attended and then sharing the photos with faculty, students and their families. In a win or lose situation he would always provide encouraging words, a mint, or even his famous homemade cookies to lift your spirits. You could count on Cheerio to make a positive impact as he lived by the motto: "In Life - Give More Than You Receive."

Westford Academy Art Club Award

Graduating seniors of Westford Academy who have demonstrated, through their course of study or their involvement in the art club, a strong commitment to their artistic growth and development. Preference is given to students planning to pursue the study of art. Art Department recommends to the Trustees.

Westford Academy Faculty Award

Graduate of Westford Academy going on to higher education. Preference given to students with financial need, who have been involved in school activities, and have good character. Selected by faculty committee.

Westford Academy Theater Arts Leadership In Action Award

Senior has been active participant in the WATA resulting in significant personal growth. A leader inspiring peers & supporting the program. GPA of 3.2 +. NHS membership is a plus. Active in community service. Pursuing higher education. Not need based.

Westford Teen Center Award

To recognize a Westford Academy student who in some way has made a contribution to their school and /or community.

William C. Roudenbush Memorial Award

To be awarded to an excellent student who has been involved in community service.
