Blanchard School News 5/30/20

Hi Everyone,

We are heading into the home stretch and gearing up for 12 more days of learning and celebration at Blanchard! On Monday, June 1, students will receive their final lessons and assignments from individual teachers. The week of June 8 will be devoted to team-based lessons focused on social-emotional wellbeing, transition and community. Each grade level has created exciting opportunities that will bring students and staff together for a memorable close to the 2019/2020 school year. Please remind your students to submit any remaining work over the next two weeks, and continue to access individual teachers during office hours leading up to the last day of school on Tuesday, June 16.

Some additional items for June and beyond are included below.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Sincerely,

Tim and Patti

Transitioning to Blanchard – Information for 2020/2021 Sixth Grade Families

While we cannot welcome families to Blanchard in person at the present time, we are in the process of creating a virtual middle school orientation. The website will include a variety of resources aimed at promoting a smooth transition to middle school including a parent orientation program, introductions and welcome messages from our staff, and a virtual tour of Blanchard. Stay tuned!

Musical Instrument Drop-Off

WPS Visual and Performing Arts Curriculum Coordinator, Ms. Mejia, has asked us to share the following update:

Dear Parents,

We will be offering an opportunity to return musical instruments to David French Music Company on Wednesday, June 10 from 9-11 am in the Abbot parking lot.  Please be sure you have called David French in advance (508-366-5994) to let them know you will be dropping an instrument off.  There will be a designated area in the parking lot with David French representatives there during that time.  Also, please be sure your child's name is clearly labeled on their instrument.  Instruments should only be returned if your student is not planning on continuing in the program next fall.  If your student is planning on continuing, they should keep the instrument for the summer and continue practicing!  Please reach out to your child's instrumental music teacher with any additional questions.  We wish you a happy summer!

WA Journalism Summer Camp

WA Ghostwriter asked if we would pass on a great upcoming opportunity for all of our students. The Westford Academy Ghostwriter has decided to run a summer camp this summer for rising 7th, 8th, and 9th graders on the basics of journalism. This camp will expose them to how our newspaper works and provide them an opportunity to experience journalism prior to entering high school.  For more information, please access this link: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1A0sUvPzUMu51mC_vq6EuNDD90TrjxR2K7qHYk-taK_E/viewform?edit_requested=true

Where in the World Will Westford GO?!

An opportunity recently shared by Mr. Brian Roark, our WPS Health and Wellness Curriculum Coordinator:

Hello Families,

I hope this message finds you and your family well during this challenging time.  I'm excited to bring this opportunity to our school community, but also the community of Westford.  All are welcome to participate; families, students, staff and community members.  I hope this project inspires us both individually and as a whole, to be mindful of our health and wellness during these times.

For directions on how you and your family can participate and contribute, visit Where in the World Will Westford GO?!

Thank you and we look forward to seeing where Westford will go!

The Google meeting link will be posted in the Blanchard Book Club Google Classroom (join code: z6vr6yt ). Contact Mrs. Brandt with any questions.

Blanchard Yearbook Update

We received an update from our publisher indicating government-mandated shut-downs may delay delivery of our yearbooks. To that end, we are unable to share plans for distribution at this time, but we have been assured anyone who has ordered a yearbook will receive one. I will share any tracking updates we receive.

Online sales have closed, but it's not too late to place an order by mail. Send a $25 check payable to Blanchard Middle School right to our office. Please make sure your child’s name is included.
