It's Constitutional...update!SB1-10-2020

With the return to Civics for our Gr8 social studies curriculum, it was very enjoyable visiting multiple classes engaged in recreating the Constitutional Convention that gave birth to our structure of government.  After researching the opinions and arguments of many of the original participants, students brought the conversations to life and were able to also make decisions based on what they believed would be most effective with what they know now.  It was an excellent exploration of how and why we have the structures in place that we do and peppered with middle school passion and perspective made for vibrant conversation indeed.

The sharks were at it again this week in the Gr8 math classes and we saw a wide range of business plans presented for investment consideration. While we were unfortunately not able to access actual funds for investment, the budding entrepreneurs gave us great cause to remain optimistic about the future.

One of the more relaxing moments of the week came while visiting a Gr7 class during a stretch break.  They were preparing to take a quick assessment and had asked to practice a little yoga before settling in to work.  Two students volunteered to lead some poses from the front of the room and then the teacher shared a resource with the students that demonstrated chair yoga positions for anyone not wanting to stand or sit on the floor.  I joined in for the chair yoga exercises.

Comparing and contrasting developing, emerging and developed countries has been a critical component of Gr6 for a while now.  Throughout the entire grade, students are either synthesizing all of the information used to determine a specific country’s economic categorization into original “Cinderella” stories or creating infographics exhibiting how a country from one ecomonic category would compare to a country from a different region and different economic categorization.  Listening to them discuss economics, infrastructures, agriculture and much more throwing in things like GDP and sustainability all while giggling if a chair or desk makes a funny noise keeps everything real and makes middle school awesome!

Principal Antonelli from Westford Academy reached out this week to ask that we share information regarding their upcoming Curriculum Information Night/ Open House scheduled for Thursday February 12, 2020.  Please access his letter with all of the pertinent information here: Incoming Students Open House (https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B95Qx8iWXxBoTHQxdkROa3NYRGVBZGFFenkxYkV...)

Have a wonderful weekend!
