Leapin' Links...update! SB 2-29-2020

I simply couldn’t resist the opportunity to post an update with today’s electronic timestamp.

The extra day helps us delay the entrance to March as it is one of the more grueling time periods in a middle school. Not that I want to delay spring at all...but for those of us living in the madness of middle school on a daily basis March is a long month and we certainly need to maintain a healthy pace.

As we pace ourselves, please take a moment to read this information in the event that your middle schoolers have any questions for you regarding the increased information they may see on social media regarding COVID-19(Share the Facts about COVID-19).  Even though we make a concerted effort to teach students about reliable sources and build their independent fact-checking skills, they are still often the first customers lined up to receive info from the rumor mill and they need not fear that every sniffle or sneeze is indication of a more serious ailment.  That being said, we still have the seasonal flu to contend with and although our team of custodians do a phenomenal job cleaning our building, it is imperative for everyone’s health that individuals with flu-like symptoms should stay home and get the rest necessary to heal appropriately and not contribute to the spread of any illnesses.  Err on the side of caution and let them rest.

Later in March, Gr6 and Gr8 students will be participating in the Emerson Hospital Youth Risk Behavior Survey which is conducted regularly.  The below link is a read-only document discussing the administration, topics and frequently asked questions.

2020 Emerson Hospital Youth Risk Behavior Survey

To wrap up our health related links for this update, Ms. Downey and Ms. Craig, our wellness teachers, have shared a February update providing an overview of the work students have been doing in their classes recently.  You can access their update here: February Wellness Notes

The last of our leapin’ links comes from our Yearbook staff as a reminder that the 2019-2020 Yearbook can still be purchased by following the directions in the linked pdf or directly accessing the website via this link:

So, in the event that you were concerned you would not have enough to do on this extra day of the year, I leave you with all of these links and encourage you to also review the information from our community partners included at the end.  If you aren’t reading this update until March, have no fear February 29th will be back in 2024.

Enjoy,

Chris
