Merely a Fortnight...Update!

Dr. Chew's weekly update posted on June 8, 2018.

This title will most likely result in one of two reactions:

1. Readers might be impressed with the author's clear command of popculture and assume that he is making a reference to a recent video game phenomenon.

2. Readers will assume the author is an old man still communicating using an archiac phrase referring to a two week period.

Perhaps there is truth in both.

I had the unique pleasure of debating the merits of the video game with a handful of 8th graders this week who clearly did not see the same concerns that I did with glorifying the Hunger Games style death match scenario on which the game is based.  To each his own, I will continue to watch House Hunters International and they can watch YouTube videos of other people playing video games.  Both seem to be mindless distractions more than anything else.

While it was not a distraction per se, merely a departure from our typical activity, we had the opportunity to host two different groups of 5th graders visiting us from camp this week.  We joked that it would be easier for them to hike through the woods to get to us than to take a bus as they have spent most of the week just through the trees.  There were a lot of laughs and smiles while questions were answered and tours were given and hopefully everyone left feeling very optimistic about next year.  I know I did.  They seemed like a fantastic group of curious minds ready for their next adventure.  We look forward to officially welcoming them next August.

As mentioned in last week's update, information regarding the WMSPTO's 8th Grade Celebration is included below along with access to the permission slip.  They are in need of more volunteers to help make this wonderful event happen.  Any help you can provide is greatly appreciated!

That leads me to the more pressing connection with this week's title as it really exists in the fact that we only have two short weeks of school left before the summer break.  Not that anyone is counting...

Have a wonderful weekend,

Chris

Westford Challenge Success Newsletter & Parent Meeting Tuesday 6/19

Summer is almost here, but before we head out to the beaches, send our children off to camp, and forget about school altogether, the Westford Challenge Success Parent Group wants to take one last opportunity to engage with you about the hopes and concerns we have about helping our kids be well-balanced students. Here is a link to the June parent newsletter, chock full of tips and resources for you to consider this summer.  We'd also like to invite you to a parent get-together being held on Tuesday, June 19th, at 7:30pm. Check the newsletter for details, then head over to the signup page to reserve your spot. This casual event will be a good chance to meet some other parents doing their best to raise and support happy, healthy kids.

8th Grade Celebration is less than only 2 weeks away and we need your help!

This annual and much-anticipated event is scheduled for Thursday, June 21 at the Stony Brook School. In order for this event to be a success, we not only need MORE parent volunteers. Please click here sign up to help.

If your 8th grader has not brought home the permission slip yet, please download the attached form and send back as soon as possible with payment.
