No Talking...update!SB 11-22-19

I had the wonderful opportunity to visit Abbot Elementary this morning and participate in the Community Readers event.  Two incredible groups of 5th graders spent time with me listening to the first few chapters of Andrew Clements’ No Talking. I joked with them that I chose this book because it clearly outlines all of the rules and expectations that they will experience when transitioning to Stony Brook, especially the no talking part.  They quickly appreciated my attempt at humor and we had a great deal of fun together. I told them my goal was for them to experience how much fun middle school really will be regardless of whatever their older siblings or neighbors try to trick them into thinking. They shared with me some of the interesting tales they have heard including the pool we have on the roof and that 6th graders aren’t allowed to join any clubs or activities. We had a lot of laughs.

Next week is a very interesting time as we prepare for the annual Turkey Toss, the 7th grade Barter Day, and the preview/sneak-peek performances of the upcoming SBTA production of FROZEN, Jr.!  Energy is high all around and it makes for some exhausted participants as we lead up to the Thanksgiving break. Not that the students have forgotten, but they do not have school on Monday as we shift our schedule to accommodate the evening parent/teacher conferences.  Additionally, Tuesday we follow a two-hour delay schedule for the students so that we can accommodate the morning conference slots.

The actual production of FROZEN, Jr.! is just around the corner. Tickets go on sale to the public Monday, November 25 and can be purchased on-line at Show4Tix. (https://www.showtix4u.com/event-details/35551)

Showtimes are:

December 13th at 7:00 pm

December 14th at 1:00 and 7:00 pm

December 20th at 7:00 pm

December 21st at 1:00pm

There is also a character breakfast on Saturday, December 21st at 10:00 am. Tickets for this can be purchased at the same link as above.

Two reminders from earlier messages:

Ski and Snowboard Club sign-ups have started! The club will be going to Nashoba Valley Ski Area on Thursdays this year. We are excited to offer transportation, season tickets, and lesson options for students. Please access the flyer here and return it to Mrs. Sullivan in Room 307. The deadline to sign up is December 7th. Please let Mrs. Sullivan know if you have any questions by email:  ssullivan@westfordk12.us.

Have a wonderfully relaxing longish weekend...for any of who immediately thought of the classic TV show WKRP in Cincinnati when you read the words “Turkey Toss”...have no fear, we do not use a helicopter or actual turkeys at any point during the event.
