Pivot 2.0...update! SB Special Edition 4-26-21

Pivot...Update! SB Special Edition 4-26-21

Today was the first day all year that I really felt the “pivot” energy from the famous Friends meme.

We had a sketch :-)

The day really went well overall and it was great to have so much energy in the building for a full day!

The picnic lunches were a successful beginning to our new adventure! Every lunch now is like taking a break to eat during a field trip...remember those?  Our wonderful cafeteria staff had extra lunches on hand for students who were not able to order ahead of time so we were able to make sure that everyone who wanted something was able to get it.   Here is the lunch order information for anyone with questions about that process: Message from WPS Food Services

The weather looks good for tomorrow but it looks like we might need to practice our indoor picnic protocols later in the week.  On those days, we have two separate lunch periods for each grade so that we can comfortably fit half the grade in the gym at a time.

So, while the bulk of the day was successful, dismissal seemed to turn into a choose your own adventure story...but where other folks are making the choices for you...or when you turn to the page it’s actually from a different book altogether.  It’s certainly possible that some folks were trying to beat the rush or that I didn’t articulate the dismissal traffic concern clearly prior to the break.  However, the vast majority of everyone experienced what the impact of a long back-up of vehicles on Farmer Way creates which actually started before 1:45.  Our official dismissal is not until 1:55.  Half of the busses were not able to get to the school creating a bit of confusion for the bus riders and delayed their departure which also kept all of those people already sitting in traffic...sitting in traffic even longer. For anyone curious, there was no line to speak of at 2:10. Hopefully, we will be able to get the busses to the school sooner tomorrow, but my strong suggestion for all you driving here is to just let your kids get upset having to wait for you and, if possible, delay getting in line to pick them up...tell them it’s my fault...and send them with an umbrella on Wednesday :-)

Cheers!

Chris
