Here comes the busy month of May!

Good afternoon,

Say goodbye to the April showers and bring on the May flowers!  I know I am ready for the warmer weather, sunny days, and sunsets after 8:00 PM.   After today there are 34.5 days remaining in the school year 2021-2022.  The Westford Academy Administration, faculty, and staff are looking forward to the end of year celebrations.  We are anticipating holding our senior scholarship night, senior awards ceremony, and the underclassmen awards celebrations in our beautiful auditorium.  While we all worked hard to provide a good experience using Google Meet for last year, there is nothing like seeing our students face to face. Especially when they are being recognized for their excellence.  We also look forward to seeing our parent/guardians back in the Performing Arts Center in order to celebrate

Believe it or not, the Junior Cotillion is next Saturday, May 7, 2022 at Kimball Farm in Westford.  We will start the evening off with pictures on the turf field at Westford Academy’s Trustees Field.  After we spend about an hour on the field, our juniors will head to the Westford Icon where they can listen to music,  dance, hit golf balls, ride bumper cars, play mini-golf, eat from a variety of BBQ items and then,  take in dessert!  Kimball Farm Ice Cream with all of the toppings! To be young again!

Finally, spring sports are well underway.  Our teams are doing great and I wish all of the coaches and players much success throughout the remainder of the spring season.  Hope to see our teams making it deep in to tournament time!

For Families Withdrawing their student(s) from Westford Public Schools

For more efficient tracking purposes, Westford Public Schools has a "Westford Intent to Withdraw - Year End" Google Form.

Any family that must withdraw a student from WPS must submit their "intent" to withdraw by clicking the link for their current school(s) and filling out the Google form.  The respective school(s) will receive notification when the form is filled out.  Staff will then contact the family and send the appropriate school withdrawal paperwork to complete the process.  This form will allow us to confirm and crosscheck all withdrawals from the District for accurate enrollment numbers.  Any students leaving the district must be officially withdrawn from WPS in order to release any records to a new district.

The form is located on the District page under the Registration link.

Westford Education Foundation: Give The Gift That Keeps On Giving!

Can’t find just the right gift to show your appreciation for the wonderful job your child’s teacher or special staff member has done? Consider sending a WEF note to your favorite teacher, counselor, teacher’s aide, school  nurse, office staff member, or principal.  It’s the perfect way to say thank you and support innovation at Nashoba Valley Technical High School and in Westford Public Schools at the same time!

Proceeds from these notes will be used to fund grants for innovative educational programs for NVTHS and WPS. This is also a great idea for class gifts!

Just make a tax-deductible donation (minimum of $10 per honoree) to the Westford Education Foundation and we will send your honoree an email from WEF with a personalized note.  The email will state your name and your message, but will not disclose the amount of your gift.

Note: Donations made to WEF in honor of NVTHS and WPS staff members comply with the state ethical regulations for gift-giving and acceptance. The Westford Education Foundation is an independent, non-profit organization that promotes excellence in education.  We fund grants to teachers, staff, and the community for innovative educational initiatives, professional development, and life-long learning ventures.

Visit our website at https://www.westford.org/wef for more information on the programs we have funded in your school.  All of this would not be possible without the support of our community and people like you.

Please visit https://www.westford.org/wef/thank-a-teacher_winter/ to complete your donation. You can complete your donation using your PayPal account or credit card. You will receive a confirmation email when your note is delivered.  Questions? Contact WEF at wef@westford.org. Thank you!

Please check to see if your company has a matching gift program. Your gift may be doubled, or even tripled!  Check with your human resources office for a matching gift form to submit with your donation.

Volunteer Host Families Needed for Foreign Exchange Students

Are you interested in welcoming an international exchange student into your home for the 2022-2023 academic year? We are currently seeking volunteer host families to host a foreign exchange student for one full academic year, or one academic semester. This is a big commitment. But the experience can and has been life-changing for both exchange students and host families. You would: provide a room for the exchange student to sleep in,

provide three meals a day, arrange transportation to and from school, (we waive the bus fee!) act as a sort of personal cultural ambassador, and show the exchange student how wonderful, crazy, and warm and welcoming your family is!  Sounds like fun?? It is. We are very proud to say that Westford Academy has hosted over 200 international students from 40 countries around the world since 1976. We are successful because of the generous support of our volunteer host families…..Do you want to become one? :-)

For more information or to begin the application process to host in 2022-2023, please contact Tim Welch, WA International Exchange Coordinator, at twelch@westfordk12.us.

Have a great weekend!

Respectfully,

Jim Antonelli
