A must see event!

THE CHRIS HERREN STORY: Journey from addiction to sobriety

On Thursday evening January 31st at 7:00 PM, Chris Herren will be speaking at Westford Academy about his journey from addiction to sobriety.  This speaking engagement is open to the community of Westford and the surrounding communities. Below is a brief description of what is to be presented and discussed that evening, as well as a link to Chris Herren's Bio.

PREVENTION STARTS WITH ALL: THE CHRIS HERREN STORY

Presentation Time: 1 Hour

Audience: Community of Westford and Surrounding Communities

In this very personal presentation, Chris will share his recovery journey in a brutally honest format with just a microphone. The event will start with a 5-minute film introducing Herren and showing highlights of his basketball career and his dream to play in the NBA which began to unravel by making a few bad decisions. From growing up in Fall River, MA to playing Division 1 basketball and in the NBA, he will take the audience addressing themes of gateway drugs, prescription drug use, vaping and the responsibility of prevention starting with us all.  To conclude the event Chris will field question from the audience.

Graduation 2019 - Seniors - Cap and Gown Orders

Balfour will be in the upper cafeteria on February 4th and 5th during all four lunches to measure seniors for their graduation gown and to take orders for seniors to purchase their cap, gown and tassel. Caps are $5, gowns are $11, and tassels are $2.00 ($18.00 total for all three.) Each student may select their choice of either maroon or white gown.Please make checks payable to Balfour.

Westford Academy Chorus

On Thursday February 7th the Westford Academy Chorus will host a Vocal Night at 7:00 PM. This is our last major fundraiser before we perform in CARNEGIE HALL in New York City. Please come, relax, and enjoy the vocal music of our talented musicians in a coffeehouse-style event in the WA cafe. Refreshments will be sold and tickets are a $5 donation at the door. Thank you for your support!

Lunar New Year Celebration at WA

The Chinese Program and Asian Culture Club at Westford Academy is holding a night of entertainment and festivities on February 2 at the Westford Academy cafeteria to celebrate Lunar New Year, the year of the pig.  We would like to invite everyone in our community to have an unforgettable evening together. Event highlights include - Authentic New Year dinner sponsored by Bamboo Fine Asian Cuisine, Lion Dance, Dragon Dance and acrobatics by Chinese Folk Art Workshop Boston. Fantastic performances by Mandarin Program students. Prizes and New Year lucky money for every guest.

LAST NIGHT 2019

WA Last Night 2019 is the all-night, substance-free celebration for our Westford Academy graduating seniors, which will be held on Friday, June 7th starting at 10:00 PM. With almost 100% participation, Last Night is a highlight for WA graduates. It takes over 300 volunteers and many, many generous donors to make this evening a success. Parents of all students from K to 12, are encouraged to volunteer.  For more information, please see the Last Night website at www.walastnight.org

No One Walks Alone - Mental Health Awareness Night

The WA NOWA Club (No One Walks Alone) proudly presents their first MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS NIGHT on January 30, 2019 in the WA Lecture Hall, 7:00 - 8:30 PM. Light refreshments will be served at 6:45 PM. This event is open to community members, parents and students age 13+. Moderated by School Psychologist, Steve Cunha, this information session will feature a panel of local health professionals, members of the WA Guidance Department, and WA students. Listen to personal experiences, learn how and where to access local mental health resources and discuss ways to reduce the stigma of mental illness in our community. Questions may be submitted in advance by emailing scunha@westfordk12.us, or at the event.

National Honor Society “EMPTY BOWLS EVENT”

                 National Honor Society “EMPTY BOWLS EVENT FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 1st, 6:00 ñ 8:00 PM! Support a good cause and enjoy student-performed music and presentations at the Tadmuck Chapter of National Honor Societyís Empty Bowls Event! We aim to raise awareness, and proceedings will be donated to the Westford Food Pantry.  A $15 ticket for entry will get you a soup meal, a student-made ceramic bowl, and free entry into a raffle! **Ticket purchases should be made in advance, please email gfuhr@westfordk12.usfor information.

                 **Although some leftover tickets may be sold at the door on the night, we cannot guarantee entry for tickets not purchased in advance.
