Good afternoon,

Today marks the end of quarter one at Westford Academy.  I hope that your son/daughter is finding success at W.A. and getting involved in the many co-curricular offerings and athletics at the high school. If your son/daughter has struggled in quarter one, please remind him/her to seek out extra help with his/her classroom teachers. Our teachers are very generous with their time and supportive of our students.

The Addams Family started this week in our Theater Arts Department. Please be sure to take in the show. I would like to say thank you to all of the cast and crew and give a “shout out” to our musicians in the pit.  Our pit musicians do a great job and their commitment and effort to make a great performance is appreciated.

The SafeHomes program provides a way for parents to establish a clean expectation of “no use” by minors of tobacco, alcohol, or other drugs when they are hosting other children in their homes. Parents who join the SafeHomes program sign a pledge to follow some simple principles. They ensure other parents that if they are in the directory they will follow these principles of “no use” when they host a gathering of their children's friends at their home. This provides a safer home for young people and a better sense of security for parents when they drop their children off. A directory of participating families will be emailed later in the fall to SafeHomes families. Participation in the Westford SafeHomes program is offered to all families in Westford with children of any school age. The Westford Public Schools, the Westford Police Department and the Westford Health Department endorse the program. Registration deadline for inclusion in the 2018-2019 SafeHomes Directory is November 30, 2018. Look for registration forms in school newsletters and at the Health Department at Town Hall on the 2nd floor. For further information, call Ray Peachey, check the Health Department website at www.westfordma.gov/health or email Ray at rpeachey@westfordma.gov.

FAME: REMINDER: FAME MEETING TUESDAY NIGHT

Do you support music education in the Westford Public Schools? Has your son or daughter developed essential skills such as discipline, confidence, and a sense of belonging by participating in the nationally recognized music program that Westford offers? If so, FAME, Friends Advancing Music Education, needs your help. FAME is the primary organization awarding scholarships to graduating Westford Academy seniors in recognition of their dedication and commitment to the study of music and music-related community service during their high school tenure. In 2018, FAME awarded twelve scholarships at Senior Awards Night; twelve were awarded in 2017 and in 2016, twenty-one seniors received FAME scholarships! Without volunteers, FAME will be unable to continue with this important recognition of Westford's music students after the Class of 2020 graduates. FAME meets for 1-2 hours on the first Tuesday of each month in room 108 at WA. If you support music education and would like to see FAME continue to recognize your music student's hard work and dedication, join our meetings and learn how you can help. If you have any questions, or if you can't attend the meeting but would still like to volunteer, email FAME at fame.westford1@gmail.com. We are asking for a few hours of your time to support music skills that last a lifetime.

WA Athletic Boosters: You're invited!

Please join us for some light refreshments, drinks and discussion. Whether your son or daughter is a fall, winter or spring athlete, please take this opportunity to meet with Jeff Bunyon and to discuss WA athletics. Booster members will be in attendance if you'd like additional information about upcoming events, volunteering opportunities, WA team requests, and recent athletic equipment purchases. All money raised by the WA Athletic Boosters goes back to all athletes at WA, through scholarships, purchased equipment or events/banners/letters/pins, etc.  We hope to see you there and we welcome new members!

Have a great weekend.  Jim Antonelli
