From the Nurse's Clinic:

Dear Parent/ Guardian of NINTH GRADE STUDENTS:

Massachusetts General Law c. 71, s. 57 requires all publicly enrolled students in grades 5 through 9 to receive annual postural screening for scoliosis. Postural screening is essential as your child is going through his/her most rapid rate of growth during 5th- 9th grade. During this time, early detection of a spinal curvature can create opportunities for the easiest treatment to correct the growth of the spine. Not recognizing the problem until the child is fully grown can lead to serious complications as an adult, such as pain and even difficulty breathing, which may only be corrected by surgery. Generally, these screens are part of your son/daughter's annual physical examination with their pediatrician. However, if you would like for our school nurse to complete this important examination, please notify your school nurse in writing no later than October 1, 2018.

Please call your school nurse’s office with any questions.

Sincerely,

Joan Mitchell MEd,BS,RN

Kathy Bourdeau BS RN

Nurse Clinic Reminder

If your child has a known life-threatening allergy, please have them bring in the necessary doctor's order form and 1 epipen to our clinic ASAP.  If you have misplaced the epipen form it can be found on the WPS web site under department/ health.   Thank you.

Westford Academy's DECA

Westford Academy's DECA Business Club is holding its annual “Student/Parent Informational Night” on Tuesday, September 25th, and it will be repeated on Wednesday,September 26thin WA's PAC.  Both meetings begin at 7:00 PM. We are holding the same meeting (with identical content) on consecutive nights, to better accommodate everyone's busy schedule. The meeting should run about 30-40 minutes.  This year's meeting is a different format than we've ever had. First, it is mandatoryfor all 1st- time and veteran members, and parents are strongly urged to attend. The students will meet in the gym to kick-off our exciting Fundraiserwith the Snap-Raise organization - students must bring their Chromebooksto signup for the fundraising program. Parents will meet in the PAC for an informational discussion about the features and benefits that the renowned WA DECA program provides for their kids. By educating the parents on the resources available, we're sure their kids will be thoroughly enriched with the DECA experience.
