Important end of year information
Good afternoon,
There is so much to report on this week as the year progresses! Break out your calendar and mark down these dates!
On Monday evening, we shared with the School Committee the plans for graduation and other end of year ceremonies. We understand that not everyone will agree with the decisions that have been made. Please know that input from Class Officers, Class Advisors, students and parents was collected, reviewed and taken into consideration when making each decision.
Student voice was very loud and clear - a virtual graduation was not something that the Class of 2020 could support. Therefore, the following recommendations were made and supported by the Class Officers, Advisors, and the Westford Academy Administration:
Graduation Date # 1- August 7, 8, or 9, 2020- outside, weather-permitting, on Westford Academy’s Trustees Field at 9:30 AM (to avoid potential afternoon heat of summer)
We always provide three dates on graduation weekend in case of inclement weather. Attendance at this event is subject to guidance by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
Graduation Date # 2- December 19, 2020- inside at Westford Academy- Attendance at this event is subject to guidance by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
If neither date is possible, the Westford Academy Administration will host a virtual graduation – date and time TBD.
OTHER IMPORTANT EVENTS: All virtual
May 17, 2020- 5:00 PM
Westford Academy Boosters- Senior Athlete Banquet- May 17, 2020- 5:30 PM. The WA Boosters will hold a virtual meeting to highlight our student-athletes from the Class of 2020 and to name the Student-Athletes of the Year.
May, 2020- NHS Senior Ceremony- 6:30 PM- DATE TBD
Westtford Academy National Honor Society Senior Induction Ceremony and Trustee Book Awards.
June 4, 2020- 6:30 PM
Westford Academy Senior Scholarship Night- Seniors who are receiving Family or Westford Academy Trustee Scholarships will receive a letter of invitation. All are welcome to tune in for this special event. Awards will be sent home in the mail, or a student will receive information as to how to collect the scholarship. Note: Some scholarships are not awarded until the student completes their first semester of college.
June 5, 2020- 6:30 PM
Westford Academy Senior Awards Ceremony- All seniors and their parents/guardians are invited to celebrate the Class of 2020. Department Awards will be provided to senior recipients by Curriculum Coordinators, the Class of 2020 Most Worthy Representatives will be named, and students who earned a Westford Academy Academic Excellence Award will have their name highlighted.
A note about the Last Night Committee:
The Last Night Committee will be celebrating the Class of 2020 in some way, shape, or form on the weekend of August 7, 8, or 9. Seniors will receive a blanket and be eligible for other gift items. More details to follow! A huge shout out to the Last Night Committee for all of their hard work behind the scenes.

June 9, 2020- 6:30 PM
Westford Academy Grade 11 Awards Ceremony- All juniors and their parents/guardians are invited to celebrate the Class of 2021. Department Awards will be presented to junior recipients by Curriculum Coordinators, special Book Awards from a wide range of colleges and universities will be presented, the Class of 2021 Most Worthy Representatives will be named, and students who earned a Westford Academy Academic Excellence Award will have their name highlighted. Note: Students will be notified in the mail if they have received one or more of the awards.
June 10, 2020- 6:30 PM
Westford Academy Grade 10 Awards Ceremony- All sophomores and their parents/guardians are invited to celebrate the Class of 2022. Department Awards will be provided to sophomore recipients by Curriculum Coordinators, the Class of 2022 Most Worthy Representatives will be named, and students who earned a Westford Academy Academic Excellence Award will have their name highlighted. Note: Students will be notified in the mail if they have received one or more of the awards.
June 11, 2020- 6:30 PM
Westford Academy Grade 9 Awards Ceremony- All freshmen and their parents/guardians are invited to celebrate the Class of 2023. Department Awards will be provided to freshmen recipients by Curriculum Coordinators, the Class of 2023 Most Worthy Representatives will be named, and students who earned a Westford Academy Academic Excellence Award will have their name highlighted. Note: Students will be notified in the mail if they have received one or more of the awards.
We will work very hard to make these events as special as possible in order to celebrate our students. We are proud to work with so many talented individuals and each recipient has worked hard for this recognition and is very deserving.

OTHER IMPORTANT NOTES:
Senior lockers were emptied today. If you had a personal item it was boxed, labeled with your name and you will be able to pick up the box when we hand out caps, gowns, and stoles, etc. Hopefully, after the May 18th notice from the Governor.
All books that remained in senior lockers were returned to the respective department and labeled. No student should be held accountable for an obligation if a book was left in a locker. Library books were returned to the Wright Library at W.A. and will be checked back into the library.
We are working on a date for Chromebook and cord drop off, book returns and for seniors to pick up their caps, gowns, and stoles, materials from lockers (if any) school and health records and hopefully the yearbook. Stay tuned. Nothing can happen before May 18, 2020.
Seniors and grades 9-11- PLEASE keep all of your books together. Seniors, we expect you to return all books sometime after May 18th. Grades 9-11- keep all of your books in a safe location. You will return all books from the school year 2019-20 once return to school for the school year 2020-2021.
***Seniors; Last week for new material is next Monday, May 11, 2020. Seniors last day for the Remote Learning Plan is May 15, 2020. Seniors, please finish STRONG. Hand in all of your assignments. If a senior does not complete all work, they MAY be required to stay an additional week to earn credit in a specific course(s). Students need 117.5 credits in order to receive a diploma from W.A.*** See W.A Student Handbook Pages 27-28 for all requirements.
