Important Notice

Good evening,

I am saddened to have to report to you that there was some racially charged taunting language from our student section used at the girls basketball game on Friday night.  The game was against Wayland High School and it was reported and confirmed by witnesses that comments were directed towards a single player on Wayland’s team.  This is completely unacceptable.

Athletic events, as well as other co-curricular events are meant to be inviting, respectful and spirited experiences for our students and student-athletes. It is an opportunity for students to showcase their talents and for schools to welcome the student-body and community members.  Negative or disparaging comments will not be tolerated.  Bullying or hazing has no place in our schools or on our school grounds.

As a result,  we have decided to remove the opportunity for all student spectators to attend home and away events on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week.   The news about Friday night’s game was extremely concerning because we expect our students to exhibit kindness and respect for everyone who visits our high school.

I am sincerely hopeful that this message is clear.  Students are expected to treat others with dignity and respect at all times.  Our work with Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion continues to be a primary focus of our professional development, and we will continue to educate our students regarding these important topics.

I encourage you to have a conversation with your student regarding this message.  If you have specific questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me through email.

Respectfully, Jim Antonelli
