Wednesday's Update!

It was nice to see the sun today!

Good afternoon,

In an effort to begin the school year 2019-2020 closeout we are asking that all Westford Academy Library Books (*no class textbooks) that were signed out prior to the March 13, 2020 school closure be returned to W.A.  There is a book return box outside of the school at the main entrance under the purple awning.  At your convenience, please drop off any library books and we will be sure to update our database so that your student has no library obligation.  Thank you very much for the help with this process.  It is greatly appreciated!

Other plans for returning materials to Westford Academy:

Seniors:

• We are currently creating a plan to collect books and Chromebooks from the Class of 2020.  The proposed plan will be for students to bring all of their textbooks and their Chromebook and power cord to W.A. on a specific date (TBD), drop off school textbooks and equipment and in return students will be issued their cap, gown, and stole, school records including medical records along with their WA Yearbook. (If a student purchased one.)

• Senior Dean of Students, Mr. Twomey is sending out a Google Form to all seniors to solicit feedback about any personal belongings or books that were left behind in lockers.  Past precedent indicates that the lockers are rarely used and most of them are empty at this point.  Our plan may be to open each locker, collect any books and have Curriculum Coordinators work with teachers to clear that book obligation for a senior.

Art Department: (For seniors only) The Art Department will be reaching out to seniors to inquire whether or not they would like to pick up artwork or a ceramic piece.  Stay tuned!

Music Department: (For seniors only) The Music Department will be reaching out to seniors to inquire whether or not they would like to pick up an instrument that may have been left behind prior to the school closure on March 13, 2020.  We did hold one instrument pick up last month, so stay tuned for the next instrument pick up date.

NOTE: The Music Department will also be creating a schedule for senior students to drop off gown, tuxedos, music, instruments, etc.  Stay tuned for those upcoming dates and times.

Grades  9-11:

• Lockers:  all lockers for grades 9-11 will be opened and any trash, bottles, etc. will be thrown away.  Any books or personal items WILL remain in the locker (locked and secure) until we return to school for the school year 2020-2021.

• If your student has an item at W.A. that they cannot live without, please have your student email me or their respective Dean and we can work on a plan.  A jacket or clothing item would not be a “necessary item”.  However, if a valuable was left behind in a locker, we can some up with a plan for your student to pick up.

• Grades 9-11 will return to the same homeroom next fall with the same locker and locker combination (Please remind your student to write that combination down now and place it in a safe and obvious location~ we have backup information if necessary.)

• If school begins as scheduled, students will follow their schedule from school year 2019-2020 for 1-2 days in order for materials to be collected and for some “closure” with their former teachers.

• Please ask your student to keep all of their books in one location.  (Perhaps in their current book bag.) This will help in the collection of books and other items next fall.  The last thing we want to do is to charge a student for a book next fall after having to deal with this crisis.  Thank you for all of the support!

Art Department / Music Department:

Grades 9-11:

• Any artwork or ceramic pieces can be picked up in the fall.

• Students should hold on to any instruments, gowns, tuxedos, music etc. until classes begin in the fall.

Medication Pick-up CLINIC:

• Any medication left behind as of March 13, 2020 has been brought to the Westford Police Department and destroyed.

• Any insulin or diabetes medication can be picked up at Westford Academy by emailing Joan Mitchell, Lead Nurse or Kathy Bourdeau, School Nurse, to set up an appointment.

• Any EpiPens can be picked up at Westford Academy by emailing Joan Mitchell, Lead Nurse or Kathy Bourdeau, School Nurse, to set up an appointment.

NOTE: DEADLINE for pick up is Friday, May 8, 2020.  Otherwise all insulin/diabetic medication and EpiPens will be brought to the W.P.D. for proper disposal.
