I forgot my Chromebook. What do I do?If a student forgets their Chromebook, a limited supply of loaners are available in the library. Daily loaners can be borrowed during the school day and cannot be taken home.
Can I add stickers to my Chromebook case?Students may add stickers to the top of the case that can be easily peeled off. No permanent stickers or markings can be made to the Chromebooks.
When and how do I take out insurance?

We recommend that families seriously consider buying insurance, as it is only offered at the start of 6th Grade while students are attending Stony Brook School. There will be no other opportunities to purchase insurance. Families are responsible for the repair costs of uninsured devices. The insurance does not cover lost chargers.

For new students/parents in the district who wish to purchase insurance, please send an email to the IT department (One-to-World@westfordk12.us). Please include the student's name and that you are looking to purchase insurance.

What does insurance cover?What's covered?
What happens to your Chromebook over the summer?Students will be able to keep their Chromebooks over the summer. We strongly recommend that the devices are placed in a safe place at home for the summer. The Chromebooks are for academic use and should not be taken on vacation, to the beach, or anywhere else where they may be damaged. Devices should not be left in vehicles at any time. Students are responsible for the safekeeping of their devices and should arrive on the first day of school with their devices fully charged.

Should I bring my charger to school?

No, all devices need to be charged at home. There are insufficient outlets in classrooms to provide charging facilities and multiple charging cables in classrooms represent a safety risk. Students are not permitted to bring charging cables to school. There are limited loaners in school if students forget to charge their device at home.

What happens if my Chromebook gets damaged or lost?

Please have parents or guardians contact One-to-World@westfordk12.us by email. Please beware there could be a charge for lost Chromebooks or chargers.

Please do not take an uninsured Chromebook to a third-party vendor to have it repaired. Westford Public Schools handle all repair/replacement issues for all Chromebooks.

Does my insurance cover the cost of damage done to a loaner Chromebook? No, insurance only covers the original device assigned to the student. Students are responsible for any damage done to a loaner device. All loaner devices are inspected before assigning to students. Loaner repair costs will be billed to the parents or guardians.

Can my friend borrow my Chromebook?

No, this is an individually assigned school device for each student. No one else should use this device.

How do I connect to WIFI outside of school?

1. Log in to the Chromebook

2. Click the profile picture in the bottom right of the screen

3. Click Settings

4.  The first setting drop-down menu is for a connection - click the drop-down menu and select the network.  Some networks may require acceptance of terms of service (Panera, Libraries, etc.). Some networks may require a password to join - enter the password to establish a connection.

5. After a connection is established, a message may pop up in the lower right corner of the Chromebook’s screen prompting the user to visit the selected network’s login page.  Click this message to continue to the network login page. Upon examination of the network’s terms of service, continue with the login process. Visiting any web page will prompt the user for their Westford Google Apps for Education username and password.  After entering credentials, the Chromebook will be successfully connected to the Internet.

Can I bring my own device instead of using the school Chromebook? No, currently this is not an option at the middle school level.
Can I take the protective case off the Chromebook? The case is an 'always on' case and remains on the Chromebook at all times, even when charging. It can be personalized by the student by stickers on top of the case (not permanently) but the case cannot be removed at any time.
