Bringing Your Own Device
Personal Devices at Westford Academy.
The One-to-World Program offers Chromebooks to all students. WPS Chromebooks are needed for all online testing including MCAS, PSAT, SAT and AP exams. Students are encouraged to use these devices connected to the learning network (WA-Secure) as a primary classroom tool.
Any secondary device brought by a student are connected to the student device network (WA-Ghost) and can be used at the teachers discretion. Please ask permission to use any non-WPS Device in class.
Students requiring their own approved primary device (BYOD) should contact the Digital Learning Specialist before using it at Westford Academy. The district will not provide technology support for any student BYOD devices.
Parents and students should be aware of the requirements for BYOD devices:

If a device is not connected to the managed network (WA-Secure) it will experience slower speeds and a lower quality service, which will impact a student's ability to access the curriculum.
There is no insurance available through the schools for any BYOD devices.
The Chromebook is the device chosen by Westford Public Schools. It will allow the school system to filter sites at school and at home and push out applications that students can use for classwork. While many other devices exist, Westford Public Schools selected the Chromebook for numerous factors including its light weight, long battery life, integration with Google Apps for Education, security, compatibility with management tools, integrated keyboard, and cost. |
